Hello,

Does anyone know how the emergency shut off cap works on a Suzuki DT9.9C outboard? Part number is 37823-9440. Mine is old, and I'm trying to rule it out as the reason why the engine isn't getting any spark.

Not sure about that motor but most kill switches ground the wire to kill the spark

Re: Suzuki DT9.9C emergency shut off cap HELP!!

OK, I understand the general concept. I'm just wondering how or if this cap I have is supposed to ground the wire. The engine seemed to work fine 2 weeks ago, but my wife pulled the cap off to stop it, and I'm not sure if something snapped off when this happened. See the attached photo, there is only a small piece of plastic in the middle of the cap that fits into fitting. Not sure how that would ground a wire. I have looked all over the web for a picture of the inside of one of these things with no luck. All the parts manuals only show it from the outside. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Looking at the pic again it looks like it is a cap with the lanyard attached that you hook to yourself in case you fall overboard that is suppose to pop off releasing the switch and allowing it to ground the ignition.

Will it not just snap back on?
The center little plastic piece pushes in the switch to keep it open, is my thought.

If it is the type that grounds when pulled off, shorting the 2 wires together will not bypass it

that button is a magnet, it opens the kill switch when plugged in and allows the switch to close when unplugged.
