Three things happened at once:
1-RPM gauge quit
2-Engine speed is greatly reduced
3-Idles rough

engine runs smooth and cranks instantly. Ful throttle only produces half speed and gas usage is greatly increased.

Thanks,

Sounds like you are running on 2 of 3 cylinders. Start pulling spark plug wires 1 at a time (best to ground the loose plug wire) and see which cylinder isn't working.

Do a search on these forums for tach problems. Electrics aren't my forte but I believe I have read similar problems with tachs in other posts. I'm guessing an electrical connection and/or part that may be tied in with your ignition. After all the tach is monitoring your ignition and if something craps out in the ignition I suppose its could affect the tach.
