I have a 1985 Suzuki dt65. Suzuki’s are fairly rare in my area. There is a 2002 dt65 with a seized head for sale nearby that cosmetically looks to be in very good shape. And frankly (from pictures) looks very similar.

would the 2002 model have very many parts compatible with my 1985 model?

06502 786876. If I looked it up right, it’s an ‘87 or ‘88

Many parts will interchange, best to compare part numbers. Depends on the price and your storage options.

i happen to know the lower units won't fit. they changed a few things in the early 90's motors. might just be shift rod related, or worse like different splines .

Yeah, turns out it was an ‘87. Guy said it had a seized motor. I took it home and pulled the leg off and the motor spins just fine. It was a seizes drive shaft bearing. No damage to lower unit parts. So new bearings and seals in the mail. I have yet to see if the head has any issues. But fingers crossed it might be a sound motor

sweet. yeah i had one like that... guy thought the powerhead was seized. but i could rock the flywheel about 1/8'', so that was enough confirmation it was the lower. pulled the powerhead and she spins like new.
