1990 model year, It's an inline filter for the oil tank, the wires send a signal to the cdi when the filter screen gets dirty. Great motor when properly maintained, be sure to run the motor on premix until you get your oil system sorted out.

Not sure I understand your question, did you remove the filter yourself? Was the motor running when you got it? Converted to premix?

Hi,

The previous owner said the oil system was putting oil into the fuel via the pump, Do I need to connect that filter to anything or can I leave it the way it was in the picture??? No I did not remove the filter itself, it was like that when I got it,

The previous owner said it was running fine when he had it on a midcabin boat, I have now bolted it onto a 14 foot speedboat, here it is on the speedboat

In your photo it looks like the filter/sensor has been removed from the line that goes from the oil tank to the oil pump.

I would run it on premix until you're sure the oil system is intact and bled properly.

Thanks verybmuch for the help and info,

I know see with the photos provided, the hole on the bottom of the filter and sensor and as you can see these photos the sensor/filter has been bypassed... i hope that does not put it in limp mode but i will see when i complete the controls, the engine looks pretty good and have not done a compression test yet, but should be enough power for the boat, I put 100 to 1 motul outboard tech 2t oil into the fuel tank just to be safe

I also bolted on 2 13mm bolts to hold the engine on, I assume that will do the job...

Thanks for the extra photos, looks like he left the filter wired up to fool the cdi. I have a lot of spares for that powerhead, just not that one. Should be a fun rig.
