suzuki dt4 knockin?

hi i have just purchased a suzuki dt4 year1987 it sounds like it is knocking at high revs and back down to idle then if i rev it again its ok,up to about half throttle no problems but once over this it may happen or not.I am new to boating and this engine is just to get me and family on the water to see if we enjoy it, any help would be appreciated

Are you saying it is knocking at high RPM under load or in neutral

its knocking in neutral(sorry for amount of time replying been on hols)i have tried it on the water sound seems to have gone,engine was not used for a while b4 i got it ,was wondering if something was sticking and now its freed itself since its been used and lubricated.
