I believe my DT 30 is a late 1980 something? My problem started today after not being used a month.
It started right up ran fine while fishing. Then I had to relocate and do the drift over again started right up but the second, third and fourth time it was difficult starting. I tried to pump the ball (it was hard) choked it (which I never had to do after it got hot). I waited a minute and it started right up and ran fine until I shut it down then the problem re-occured when I tried to start it up. I headed to the boat launch put it on the trailer and flushed the engine and it started right up. Its an electric start cranks fine. Where should I begin to check.

An ignition component may be weakened somewhat.

Try regapping the plugs by .005 smaller gap and give it a try.

It may be that the idle circuit is starting to gum up a bit and the engine is running a little lean at idle which makes for more difficult restarts. Did the choking on restart help or hurt the restart? If choking it helps, try enrichening the idle circuit (check manual to see which way idle mixture screw turns for rich, some bleed air some bleed fuel) a 1/4 turn.

Thanks Yep & jim,
Choking had no effect on the starting.
I will do as suggested the next time I go to the boat.
