To anyone that knows??.I have done a few mod?s to my ?98 DT25. One of which is removing the Oil Injection; nothing was wrong but I was just trying to think ahead. I have also changed out the throttle linkage, and have ordered Boyesen Reeds. But is seems like every time I have to do something I have to pull the carb?s.

Does anyone know what would be wrong with taking the ?black? air breather (dust box) off and leaving it off? Will this change my air to fuel ratio or will I need to have the carb?s fine tuned again?

it will run just fine without the air box but it will make a mess inside the motor. get a yami 3 cyl and you wont have that problem. they are MUCH easier to work on.

I've been there. Got a t shirt. I will never own another zuki.

Removing perfectly good parts of a motor just because you feel like doing it and then complaining about having to remove a few screws to get to the carbs just does not make any sense to me. These motors were engineered to run for many many years with the parts that came on them, not sure about aftermarket parts.
It is like the old hot rods we use to put together, always having to work on them. You very seldom had to work on the stock motors until they were modified. But to each his own.

I believe it is called an air box or silencer. may allow it to run a little quieter and keep out a few larger insects and water out of motor especially if you ever run it without the cowling on.
I am sure it will be a little less restriction on the air, but may not be enough to notice or need to be readjusted. Just my 2 cents

Re: Suzuki DT25 Mod's

nothing was wrong but I was just trying to think ahead.

That about covers it all. I've never understood the point of leaving parts away that could (could that is) cause future problems. All these parts are there for a reason (Engineers have been developing it from scratch).

Some features might look cheap and are absolutely pointless (some actually are but that is another discussion) at first but when looked at closer they perfectly make sense.

"mods" are only as good as the theory behind them and the people that practice them. Leaving parts away is not something I associate with "modifiing". The keyquestion to me is : will it improve the overall performance of the engine after modifiing? Ofcourse one could say that leaving parts away does improve performance when it comes to "power to weight ratio" (No argument there because that's a fact).

referring to the question above, leaving the airfilter (dustbox or wathever) away could actually decrease overall performance. The Carb needs a forced airflow to operate so needlevalve settings will have to be adjusted. You could allready run into some problems there making new adjustments. It was stated here above, water might get into the carb or even worse dust.

The remark of riverrunner is also an option..... Buy another engine from brand X if it the one from brand Y gives you trouble. Hardly an option unless one's a miljonair (no offence). I own 2 Suzuki DT's (4 and 65). They do the job perfectly. People tend to "blame the engine" for malfunctioning and somethimes they are right. some, however forget to tell the whole story behind the malfunction when sending a curse on a certain brand. (obviously they all stop running if you don't put oil in the cranckcase..:D It happens, no kidding!)

Modifiing is a fancy word and it looks cool if you can master it or know what you are doing and it can make your engine run smoother and give you better overall performance. If not you might be taking "the long way home" eliminating "future problems".

Re: Suzuki DT25 Mod's

and again.
the amount of incorrect information on the internet is astounding.
on some engines, not this particular one, the air box restriction is a design function.
CANNOT adjust around it as carbs for about the past 20 years are fixed jet.
some engines will actually run lean enough without the airbox to detonate a piston. and some had no airbox.

why not simply maintain the rig and run it 20-30 years?
if it were not for e-fuels and customer ignorance I would be broke.
the fuel issue will go away someday, the consumer one will simply get worse.

I really don't understand your removing the oiling system. Suzuki has the most reliable oiling out there.
As you have done it did you remove the pump and blank off or did you simply disconnect the oil supply. If you leave the pump in place you need to remove the driveshaft otherwise the dry pump will be turning and will probably seize, doing damage.
