I have an '03 DT150 with hyd. TnT that is non-responsive when the button is pressed. One clue to problem, I removed the battery last fall to store and when I put it back the cables had the wrong polarity indicated so they got reversed. (Apparently the moron that installed the switch for the jack plate wired the switch backwards, and to fix his mistake he just switched connections at the battery) To keep it short, when the gnd cable was conncted, there was an initial spark, but subsequent contacts showed no indication of voltage (no spark). After correcting all cabling, everything works but the tilt and trim, there is no response when either switch is used. I have a feeling that it is a fuse (hopefully) somewhere, but I cannot find one. All breakers are reset. Does anyone have any advice before I take it in to have the dealer look at it?

hello
yep if the battery gets hooked up backwards i9t pops the 20 or 25 amp fuse. some suzukis had 2 main fuses that were 25 amp. look for them closely.
good luck and keep posting

Rodbolt-Do you have an idea of location for the fuse(s)? Under the cowling perhaps or somewhere in the hull.

Remove the engine cover and then remove the black plastic cover over the electronics (starboard side). You will see the fuse holder (s). Were the battery cables reversed or are there wires for an additional trim switch? Or are you talking abut a switch for a hydraulic jack plate? If your engine trim/tilt does not work due to a blown fuse, then you also will have no power to the engine as they both run off the same fuse. You also may have damaged the ECU if the battery cables were reversed.

Re: Suzuki DT150 Tilt and Trim Electrical

I located the fuse and it was blown. The confusion was due to the cables that powered the hyd. jack plate. They had their own polarity markings (+ POS and -NEG) on them and they were color coded as well (red and black, respectively). I did not pay any attention to them when I tie-wrapped each group of connections together before removing them from the posts (last fall). When attaching them yesterday, I looked down and saw the clearly labeled + POS and -NEG on the jack plate cables and proceeded to connect them, not realizing that they were actually incorrectly labeled and grouped with connections that were opposite polarities. After connecting them I noticed nothing on the console worked, with the exception of the jack plate, which worked in reverse ("UP" went down, and vice-versa). After closer inspection I found the problem and after cussing the installer I reversed the battery connections and everything then worked as normal except the trim and tilt motor. I did not try to start the outboard since it was out of the water. Lakensea, what is the ECU and how may it have been damaged? How do I check for damage?

hello
while it is technically possible to damage the ECU I have never actually witnessed it.
but I have witnessed the old backwards cable hookup many times on all makes. I have even been on a trouble call for a jonny rude that the starter motor spun backwards. the drive wont engage but the rest worked. I switched the cable ends and all was well. if it will start on the flusher odds are that the ECU is fine.
good luck and keep posting.
PS at least no ya have a good excuse to run the boat:) :) tell the wife ya gotta test it.

The ECU is the electronic control unit for the fuel injection and ignition. As long as the warning system is working properly, you're most likely OK. The more common cause of a damaged ECU is from voltage spikes due to poor batttery connections. Make sure you have either locknuts or lock washers on all battery connections and they are TIGHT.
