Bear,<br /><br />Thanks! I thought that might be the case. However, I have the 1988-1999 SELOC Service Manual for 2-225hp outboards. Since it starts @ 1988, I have no "example" of a 1986 Serial number. <br /><br />The manual lists a DT140 for years 1988-1999, the same years that the manual covers. Now, I originally thought that they just posted all of the models for all of the years that the manual covers. But...for the DT175 it only lists numbers for 1988-1992. So that lead me to believe that they still made a DT140 through 1999.<br /><br />The only 2 years that I have "examples" for serial #'s are, 1988 and 1989. Because the year 1998 and 1999 also end in the same digit that this manual covers. Here's where they differ in the manual:<br /><br />1988 "8***XX"; 1989 "9***XX"; 1990 "011***"; 1991 "031***"; 1992 "231***"; 1993 "351***"; 1994 "461***"; 1995 "581***"; 1996 "651***"; 1997 "751***"; 1998 "861***"; 1999 "971***".<br /><br />So, my confusion is that my serial number starts with a 6, but does not follow the "example" of the 1996, and the 1986 probably is "6***XX". Which actually fits both years because X=wildcard.<br /><br />IF the 1996 "example" does not mean that the year has to start "651" then it is possible that the engine is a 1996.<br /><br />Whew...out of breath...so to speak.<br /><br />The swedish website that you sent me to, only goes up to model year 1996, so I am wondering if that data was not available at the time that info was released. If the site were complete and through 2003, and it did not show a DT140 for 1996, then I would put more faith in that.<br /><br />Thank you so much for your reply, it has made me think about this thing until my brain hurts!<br /><br />Matt
