Bought a used boat with this outboard motor..runs like a charm. Only thing is that I just noticed a small black hose sticking out of the lower (unit?) where the prop meets the upper section of the motor and it is loose (not connected to anything). Doesn't smell like gas/oil...but at this point I don't know how to check to see if it was initially connected to something or if it just belongs there..........HELP!

I read a thread where someone was talking about a "pisser", what the heck is that?

That hose is from the pitot tube and would eventually connect to the speedometer.

The "pisser" is the small water stream squirting down from under the edge of the cowling, to let you know that water is flowing through the cooling system.

Thanks so much for the reply E! Is reconnecting the tube an expensive procedure?

You can leave it disconnected if you want. There should be a hose coming from the "leg" that the lower unit hose plugs into. I have mine all connected and the speedo has still never worked, I guess the pinhole on the leading edge of the lower unit is prone to getting clogged.

Good to know, took it in for an estimate, if it's too expensive...may let it go. Take care and again, thanks!
