Suzuki DT-3.5 - no tell tale!

Ok, I've got an 82 or 83 DT-3.5 with NO water coming out of the tell tale. Here's what I've done so far...<br /><br />1. New WaterPump Impeller<br />2. New shaft seal on waterpump<br />3. New Water Tube grommet/seal on waterpump<br /><br />I'm gettting No Tell Tale, and the engine overheats and dies after about 5 minutes. <br /><br />I'd use the motor for an anchor, but the **** thing starts on the first pull EVERY time. If only it ran for more than 5 minutes. <br /><br />Any ideas? <br /><br />SailorMotor<br />San Marcos, Texas

Try running a small wire through the tell tail and use compressed air to blow it out, small critters have been knowen to build nests in the plumbing and stop it up. I have had dirt dobbers build a nest in mine many times and have had to clean it out. If you don't get water with in the firt min. shut it down be for it gets hot. Post back and let me us know what you find.

what did your old impeller look like?<br />if your old impeller was missing blades they are probably blocking water passages in the powerhead<br />or you may have scale build-up in the water jackets <br />you may want to pull the head and have a look-see

Well, I ran a wire up the telltale hole with no obstructions. As far as the impellar, There were no blades, just a hub with nubs. I'm thinking blades must be in there somewhere.

Then I would say that the removal of the head <br />would be in order.<br />this should alow you to remove the mising blades<br />from the water jackets there-by freeing up the water flow restrictions<br />you should also make shure that there is none in<br />the pipe that caries water from the pump to<br />the powerhead
