Gentlemen,<br /> I am rebuilding my old '84 Suzuki DT 140. There is an external rubber pipe that connects the top and bottom crankshaft main bearings. In line in this pipe is a small brass fitting that appears to be a one way valve or restrictor. There is no mention of it in the workshop manual. The fitting will not pass air in either direction. What is the purpose of the rubber pipe and is the fiiting necessary? The motor did not have any problems starting or running, just seemed a little tired. I am rebuilding it because I plan to sell my old rig and just wanted a clear conscience that all was OK inside the motor for the next guy. Thanks...W

Re: SUZUKI DT 140

I believe that is a one way check valve which is important to maintaining the flow of oil to the crank bearings. It sounds like it is clogged and in need of replacement. Make sure you get it pointed in the right direction. I'm not sure but I'm guessing the valve should prevent gravity drainage but you need to find out. Go to the parts lookup page at www.brownspoint.com and look at the silencer motor bracket drawing (page 5 1984 DT40) to see a picture of the check valve and the proper orientation.

Re: SUZUKI DT 140

HI! the valve takes oil from lower bearing and transfering it too the upper bearing...serving 2 purposes: exess oil giving additional lube to upper bearing and less smoke after long trolling.. :)
