I have a 2008 suzuki DF90. I have two stalling issues. The first is the one that's bugging me. The motor stalls immediately after the first start when cold. If the engine has been run within a few hours, I have no problem. My squeeze bulb pumps hard I always activate the pump at the switch before turning over. But for some reason, on the first try it's not getting enough fuel.
2nd problem I can manage but when I throttle back hard into neutral, the motor stalls. If I ease back slowly, it won't stall.
I appreciate any ideas about either of these issues. Other than these, the outboard seems to run great!
Quick history: Outboard is on a Carolina Skiff 218 DLV. Last summer I started making oil. It turned out one of the fuel pumps failed (thnk the mechanical one). When it was failing and making oil, it started blowing smoke and the injectors may have been fouled. Suzuki and the dealer tried to hang it on ethanol and my own misuse (too much idle and trolling). Dealer cleaned the injectors and gave it back to me but it still made oil. Closer inspection they determined a pump was bad. This time they blamed the selling dealer/riggers. They moved squeeze bulb from under the center console near the fuel tank to position in the stern and put an oversized fuel water separator on. Ever since, I've had the cold start problem. Prior to this I never had a problem and in fact the motor always held prime. Suzuki warranty did nothing for me..I ended up paying $700
The stalling issue when throttling back hard has always existed..I've just learned to manage it.
many thanks.
