Surely a motor that has been out in the field for as long as this has to have a lot of satisfied buyers. How about some positive comments? They can't all be as bad as what as what I've read here lately.

You are absolutely correct, Bundy. The overwhelming majority of DF70 owners are thrilled to death with their engines.

That includes me.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: suzuki DF70 perspective

There is nothing wrong with their products. Suzuki fourstrokes are often one of the best or THE best in it's class. That is if we are talking top speed, acceleration, fuel consumption and noise level.

I have read almost all 150 or so replies on different forums. It's not about Suzukis being a bad product.
Obviously they had major problems with some camshafts. It could happen to any manufacturer. The problem is Suzuki's (in US) attitude to customers and dealers. Not being able to provide spare parts in five months is... well it breaks my fourstroke heart.
What I can't understand is why it took so long. If it's a very rare problem and they suggest some of their customers to wait five months, -what are they thinking?! Why didn't they order these parts separatly?
Airplanes are a lot faster than ships. More expensive way but in the long run it can be worth it. Today quite a few have second thougts when it comes to buing a new Suzuki. Is there some policy that says parts only can be delivered twice a year?

What about oil and gas filters and these gearcase oilplug seals? Do the dealers have them or do they have to order them first?

You asked about perspective. I'd say Suzukis engines are good. The problem is how Suzuki deals with their customers. If the problem is in Japan or in US I can't say.

/Bear

Re: suzuki DF70 perspective

I've got a 2000 DF70 with 100 hours and can say that I'm very happy so far. The engine runs like a clock, starts with the turn of the key and is extreemly quiet. The mileage is impressive. It uses less fuel than my DT55 (which was also not bad on gas compared to other brands of 2-strokes). Power and acceleration is better as well despite the DF70s heavier weight.
My old DT55 (1985) was a good engine with only minor repairs and maintenance over all the years I owned it. Parts were easy to get and no more expensive than for Mercs.
-Just as a note one of my friends had an envirude which sat most of a summer due to the inavailability of parts.

My dealer, First Choice Marine, Cape May, NJ, responded to this issue. They have sold Suuzki's for 10 years and normally get parts in a few days. Their worst case was a month. However, they also said "If I have to remove a part from a brand new motor, to get a customer back on the water in order to keep him happy, you can bet your bottom dollar, I will have a happy customer."
To me this is what is important.

We need more dealers like this to support us as customers.
