Suzuki DF50 starting problems

Sorry my bad english (google translate).

I have a Suzuki DF50 four stroke. Unsure of the number of hours that have passed, but is probably over 500 hours. 2006-model.

In the past I have had starting problems. When I try to start, there comes a sharp sound. The sound might remind some of a gear that will not hold.

The little thing pops up on the flywheel when I turn the key, but no spinning or moving.

It started when I ran out of petrol. Do not know if it has anything to say.
I filled the petrol, but the engine did not start but came up with this nasty sound.

So, after trying to start many times, then started the engine suddenly. One moment, it creates a terrible sound, but next time I turn the key it starts quite normally without any weird noises.

When I first got started it, it looks like it's easy to start it on. It now starts on the first try, but if I try after letting it stand still for a while, it will probably not start.

Does anyone know what might be wrong? Thank you.

Re: Suzuki DF50 starting problems

The DF50 is a great motor...one of their best! Tinkering with it like that is not a good idea as you could be creating more damage than good. Take it to a Suzuki mechanic that is trained to work on those motors. Outboards nowadays are no job for the "shadetree" mechanics of many years ago many of us used to enjoy.
