So after years of only running my outboard in the driveway occassionally, I finally took my boat out to a big lake (my local lake doesn't allow outboards). Just after I got her into a plane, the outboard slowed down and then stalled. When I could get it to start again, it only ran for a few seconds.
I noticed that the primer bulb was rock hard and thought that was odd. Long story short, the quick disconnect fuel connector seems to have been clogged and in the process of taking everything apart, is no longer clogged. I suspect some junk from the fuel tank got sucked up and clogged the little valve in there (the valve prevents fuel from coming out of the engine when you disconnect it).
To help prevent this from happening again, I placed another fuel filter 'upstream' from this connector, between the primer bulb and the quick disconnect. I started it in the driveway and ran her for about 15 minutes trouble-free, but the real test will be getting the boat on plane again.
