At the boat show in Anchorage Alaska I found a 16' flat bottomed hull that I liked. Attached to the back was a 50 hp Suzuki 4 stroke with a jet unit. The salesman insisted that he liked Suzuki better than Merc, Yamaha, and the rest. Quieter, better engineering, more efficient, starts every time, etc. etc. Said it would run at about 1.5 gal. per hour.
Last outboard I had was in the early seventies. I'm not familiar with Suzuki. Any one have an opinion on them?
Thanks,
otterbfishin

Had a Suzi 4 stroke (DF70). Hands down the best outboard I ever used. I recommended them to many friends. They still talk about what great engines they are.

The only problem I have ever heard about was finding parts/dealer to service. Not as common as Merc or Yamaha I guess.

One of my work boats has a Suzuki 40hp 4 stroke. The high pressure fuel pump went out after about 5 hours use, and they replaced it under warantee with no problems since. I really like the motor, but I still prefer the carbureted Hondas.

I also have the DF70 ( Evinrude model ) --- the best choice I made when I bought my boat-

I had a early 80's 35hp Evinude for 20 years -never a problem---Now I switched to the techno laden Suzuki and it's heaven!
All of the things the salesman said are true.

The only problem I have been having is with the new ethonal based gas-water /fuel content. Engine studders when cold.
