Trying to change impeller on 9.9 Suzuki, 1989.

Never attempted before on my own. Followed instructions to disconnect shift rod, removed 4 bolts and unit will not drop.

Seems locked somewhere else. Store I purchased impeller and instructions say no, that was all that was necessary.

Any suggestions ? Store said possibly that drive shaft was rusted into power head somehow ?????

Maybe need a BFH ?

Thanks,

well if it has not seen routine scheduled maint it may be the shft splines are frozen together. try using a dead blow hammer and striking it just afft of the midsection. dont hit the ventalation plate or you will be posting about welding it.

Re: SUZUKI 9.9 HP LOWER UNIT

thanks for the advice rodbolt, but I read this post too late. Cracked 1/2 of cavitation plate off in the process.

Any idea if I spray penetrating oil on the main shaft just underneath of the flywheel, will that possibly make it down to where my problem is ?

Not sure where you mean just aft of the midsection. What is a dead blow hammer ?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: SUZUKI 9.9 HP LOWER UNIT

Finally did get the F*#@%er off. Used lots of penetrating oil, brute force and some big screwdrivers, hammers, and crowbars.

Motor is back in good working condition with a bit of a gap on the lower unit seam.

Heard that the seam doesn't necessarily have to be water tight. Seems I have some exaust coming out of there instead of the prop.

But for those who have stuck drive shafts,,,advice is to keep at it. Turn it upside down, spray lots of penetrating oil in there and keep working at it.
