Suzuki 85 stall

My 1985 model 85 OI runns well,however quite often it stalls when I shift into forward gear.I can restart easy enough however if I dont give it a good rev first it more than likely will stall again in shift???<br />any clues this is my first non diesel.

What is the idle speed of the motor my DT75 looks for about 700 rpm idling in fwd gear on the water. On my motor this gives about 900rpm idle in neutral. Also are you changing gear decisively?<br />Because the gear change is done by "clunking into gear changing throttle slowly from idle to neutral causes accelerated wear. From neutral idle quickly move throttle to fwd gear to where you can just hear the rpm increase.<br />regards sirlespat
