Suzuki 140 -4 stroke.

Trolling the other night after an hour or so the oil light came on and flashed continuously. I checked the oil level and it actually was overfilled so I pulled some out to the correct level. Engine seems to run fine but the light continues to flash. Any suggestions on why or how to reset or what is going on? This is a 2001 model with not many hours on it. It doesn't matter what speed you run the oil light continues to flash. Thanks for any help you can give.

did you try disconnecting the battery to reset that god@#%m computer the put in those 4-strokes? <br /><br />That's what you can do on a car engine to reset the computer sometimes.If still on you may have a bad sensor or a plugged line.Is it still under warranty??<br /><br />One of the omc guru's here can probably help alittle more.Read troubleshooting in the manual.

Hi, TDMoss.<br /><br />I suspect that your light may be an oil pressure warning, not oil level.<br /><br />A lot of 4 strokes exhibit oil dilution running at idle speeds before they are fully broken in. This has been reported in Yamaha, Honda and Merc engines. Yours is the first time I have heard of it in a Suzi.<br /><br />Your oil may have become diluted with fuel to the point that it wont hold pressure.<br /><br />Change the oil. Then run the engine above 5,000rpm for several miles to see if the dilution recurs. This is what Yamaha dealers are telling their customers with the same problem.<br /><br />Good luck.

Your dealer is not on the ball and you didn't read your owners manual. The oil light is the oil change reminder light !!! It comes on initially at 20 hrs., then again 80 hrs. later (100hrs.) then every 100hrs. thereafter. To reset it you turn the key on, remove the kill switch clip and the pull the kill switch out 3 times in about 5 sec.. If you do it right you will hear one long beep..and by the way..change your oil, it's the lifeblood of the engine..READ your manual..please

The "making of oil" occurs often in new 4 stroke motors. Some service technicians at the dealerships say to run the motor harder to prevent this. It could also be a thermostat or fuel pump problem. Do as the others say, change the oil and run it hard for a bit. Then check the level to see if it has risen. If the problem still exists, take it to the dealer.
