SUZUKI 115 HOT-SPOTS ?

Hi, I've got a 1991 Suzuki 115hp oil injection. The Suzuki goes like the clappers but earlier this year cost me a bloody fortune to replace a badly corroded exhaust (plus did proactive replacement of all seals). <br />QUESTION - what other weak areas of this model outboard should I be proactively monitoring ?<br />Richrd (KIWI)

Ive had a 93 Suzuki 140 for 1 season and have had no problems yet. I guess I'll have<br />to watch for exhaust problems. Has yours<br />been used in salt water?<br />Mine seems to idle very high when first started, after a short time it idles down, does yours do the same?<br />

Thanks KenH. Yep, it's almost always used in salt water (18ft boat, 4-6 dive tanks, heavy use).<br />Service guy says a few 90-93 models have turned up recently with corroded exhausts. I suggest you ask your service guy to specifically flush/grease the exhaust/ manifold area as regular home-flushing after each use hasn't been enough.<br />HIGH REVS on startup - yep but only on a cold start. Not after it's been running and we restart to head for home. On cold start revs are high for say 5-10 seconds then they drop down to a neat idle.<br />SHUDDERING on takeoff (during 1500-3000rpm)? Simple, Get the fuel fixture fine-tuned.<br />GENERAL QUESTION - what is your engine mated to (mine is on a 17'8 fibreglass Buccaneer)<br />CHEERS - Richard

RichH, I don't know if it is available in your area, but there is a product called Salt Away that is used with the flushing water that really helps with corrosion problems. Might check and see if your local dealer stocks it.

i have a 1990 30 hp suzuki oil injected. it was used in saltwater but the exhaust was not corroded but it cost me 1200.00 to rebuild it cause it was overheating due to not spitting enough water out. but now it idles low at a cold start. that is normal for it.
