I have a 16ft centre consol with two 3 cyl mercury 60hp. The port side motor battles to start, idles rough but runs like a scalded cat eventually. It cuts out when put into gear for about ten minutes until warm then runs great. The starboard motor starts first time, idles smoothly but doesn't rev up to more than 3500. When I bought the boat 2 months ago it ran well but now the tach has now stopped working. The shop say it is the stator but have not done any tests.
Have replaced plugs and fuel lines and only use fresh fuel. Am currently having carbs rebuilt, impellors changed and compression test.
Please help diagnose problems on these two identical yet fussy motors.

on one of my motors some one has changed the wiring so they could test it on a stand and left me to fix it
