Hi, We are looking for a surveyor who would be very detailed and conservative who could give a boat we are considering near Middletown a very thorough going over. Does anyone have a suggestion. Name and phone would be very helpful, if possible.

Thank you, Faith

Re: surveyor needed near Providence RI

Hi Faith:
I've been looking for an accredited marine surveyor myself. There are two professional associations for surveyors in the U.S.:

The National Association of Marine Surveyors (www.nams-cms.org), and,
The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (www.marinesurvey.org)

They both have listings of surveyors in the area, (I'm from SE MA and sail Narragansett Bay) with varying expertise and experience levels.

If you find a good one for sailing vessels, please post the name and phone number, as I may use one myself.

PoPeYe40

Re: surveyor needed near Providence RI

Hi - Here is all the info I compiled on surveyors in the Providence area. Most are responses to queries on various forums. At the bottom you'll see we went with the fellow our broker recommend. Good guy. Faith

I keep my boat in Newport and used Bill Coble for a survey. I was quite impressed with the scope and depth of this work and his professionalism. He is a member of SAMS (Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors). His contact info is: phone: 401-295-1389 and email cobleboatsurveys@aol.com. His father Paul is also a marine surveyor so I guess it runs in the family so to speak. Given the TERRIBLE experience I had with another surveyor, I cant emphasize enough the importance of a good survey. Please feel free to email me offline.

http://www.muntzmarinesurveyors.com,

Pauls’ fee is $17.50 per foot (that cannot be) and $5.00 per foot for sea trail/engine test

I have used Paul Brinkman twice. He is very thorough, and very conservative. He
is not a 'feel good' surveyor who will take away your fears, but rather will
always give you doubts about your boat. You need to read him and the 'problems'
with which he comes up. He considers a boat a work of art as well, and will
again be very critical. Phone 401 952 3520. Use him to be sure that you have a
good solid boat, but as I said, don't be looking for a guy who will just smile,
give you a thumbs up, and pat you on the back.
If it is a Freedom you are looking at, you can also call Paul Dennis at Warren
River Boatworks (now located at cove haven marina in barrington) and ask him if
he will look at your boat. He is not a surveyor per se, but knows freedoms
better than anyone. He will probably know the history of the boat you are
looking at.

Paul W. Brinkman - Accredited Marine Surveyor 1997
Brinkman Marine Survey
155 Prospect Avenue
Middletown, Rhode Island 02842-5605
401-952-3520-Mobile
pbsurvey@cox.net
Specialty: Yachts, Small Craft

William Coble - Accredited Marine Surveyor 1996
William Coble Marine Surveyor
P.O. Box 1434
North Kingstown, Rhode Island 02852
401-295-1389-O & Fax
cobleboatsurveys@cox.net
Specialty: Yachts, Small Craft

Spoke with Paul Coble ( William is his dad) seemed very nice
Faith-

Alan Roby has done two very thorough surveys for me, both on Legacys (Freedoms)and at very reasonable prices. I would highly recommend him.

Allied Marine Surveyors
Plymouth, MA
508-746-0436

Dan
But the man we finally went with who was very thorough was Gene ______________ you will have to get his name and number through Lawson Yachts in Hingham for I’ve left my papers in the car. We were impressed. Faith

Re: surveyor needed near Providence RI

Faith:
Thanks for the info. I'm not quite sure as to which brand of boat I'm looking for just yet, all I know at this point is that I need a bigger one! If you get up on the upper bay next season and see us, give us a hail. I sail a 18' gray Renken.
