surging suzuki?

I put a 83' Suzuki EL50 in the water for the first time today after getting the carbs rebuilt for me (it sat up for around 3 years). It seemed to run semi-normal except at part thottle it bog slightly then surge ahead. At full thottle it would run well but bog down on occasion. I was worried about the impeller, but it seemed to have a good spray out back. However, the pisser only seem to be running half strenth except in reverse then the stream would get stronger. My question is if a weak impeller could cause an intermittent problem such as this or should talk with the would rebuilt the carbs?
I will appreciate any help.

I forgot to mention that it wasn't idling all that well either. Thanks.

Re: surging suzuki?

Maybe some additional info would help.
When going to WOT it would take a second before its starts pulling good. But at 1/2 thottle it would seem to suddedly alternate to 1/3 output run a few seconds like that and then switch back to 1/2 output. If the problem is maybe the carbs, I'm sure which screws adjust what (the manual doesn't help much). There is a screw on thn front of the carb behind the plate, and there is another screw on top of the carb.
Maybe this sheds some more light on my problem. Thanks

Take it back to your carb guy. It sounds like some stuff is getting sucked into the jets then re settling out. Have him fully dissasemble them and make sure all the passageways are fully clean. The screw on the front is idle mixture only and what you think is a screw on top is a fixed jet, non-adjustable.

On my 1980 dt50 the foam on the inside of hood was deteriorating casing little fragments to enter the bowl vents causing similar problem. Cleaned carbs again, removed foam liner.

Add a good inline fuel filter if you don't have one allready.

Re: surging suzuki?

I checked the foam lining in the cowling and it looked to be in good shape. But in any case I sent it back to the carb guy, and will post what the problem was. I mean time I have another question:
This engine is on a 17' Blue Fin aluminum vee bottom and seems like it pushes it to about thirty. I really desire a little more power, so with my limited budget I bought a old merc 90 that will need care to bring back to life. However in the mean time I found someone that will trade this suzuki (which I believe has low hours) for two 70's model Evinrude 50's which I would intend mounting both on a custom jack plate (I already have all needed materials). Is this crazy to try? Does one motor have to a counter-rotater. I like the idea of 2 motors for when I run around a bay (Being stranded 5 miles from land kinda sucks). I would appreciate any thoughts on my loco inspiration.
