old gas is gone. carb (edelbrock) has been rebuilt by a shop. this is a 454 with spanking new plugs. cap, rotor, points, etc only have about 15 hours on them (last year).

took her out yesterday and everything ran great at first. after about 20 mins of cruising varying between 2800-3600 rpms i noticed a bit of a stumble. 200 rpms or so. i turned back to the dock but things seemed to hold steady. kept cruising around and the stumble seemed to turn into more of a surging from 2800 to just over 3k rpms. i guess it could have been the stumble going away and getting full power. i tried to open her up again and couldn't get past 3400 rpms this time.

i plan to start her on the hose and check the spark plug wires. when i was setting the timing before this outing i accidentally grabbed the top of the distributor and got a nice zap.

i'm also thinking the coil could do this. it's older than the cap/points.

any trouble-shooting tips?
