Surge to Electric conversion?

I have a Shorelander trailer with surge brakes for my Larson 22' open bow. I have a steep driveway that I back the boat uphill into my garage. The surge brake has a lockout feature that is tough to engage, sometimes doesn't stay put, etc. I've been just backing up without doing anything (sometimes 4wd low) but I'm considering converting to electric brakes. Anybody done that? Other solutions?

Thanks

I have a Shorelander with similar problems.

All-electric brakes have issues with corrosion in the drum mechanisms, and don't appear perfected for marine use at this time.

What does look good to me are the electric-over-hydraulic setups that use brake light triggering to activate hydraulic brakes, which can be either disk or drum. No more surge slamming. Only problem with these setups is that they are the most expensive.

How about adding a lockout solenoid? It mounts inline of your trailer brake line and requires a 5th electrical wire which is energized when the tow vehicle is put in reverse.
