I recently acquired for free, a runabout fiberglass hull with a hull ID plaque reading: Cutter 13040. The guy I got it from seems to think it is from somewhere in the 1970's. However I have been trying and trying to research this craft to find its manufactured year and actual manufacturer and name of the boat. Is there anyone out there who could possibly give me more leads or have the knowledge to tell me what kind of craft this is and when it was made?

See, I also thought it was more 60's. It also came with a 1954 or 1956Evinrude Big Twin (30?). The model number does not match up with the 30 part of the Big Twin. Thanks for the earlier model year assurance though.

Since the boat was registered in Ohio at some point in time, there should be some info in their records. The USCG-maintained Manufacturers Identification Code (MIC) database indicates there was a Cutter Boat Company (CBO) in Batavia, OH that has been out of business since 1984. None of the boats I have owned that were built before about 1972 had HIN's or MIC's and the serial numbers did not provide any year-built info. Good luck!

I did check out fiberglassics. It was not of much help. Thank you for the information about the HIN number. I guess I will just have to call it my 15 foot fiberglass Cutter runabout.

I had a Crestliner with similar lines. It's not a Crestliner but it is late 60s or early 70s. Be careful cleaning that windshield. They scratch easily and are expensive to replace.

I'm thinking 50's might be pushing it a bit (maybe late 50's). Looks more 60's to me.

I have the whole floor ripped out right now, it was all rotten. I still need to look at the transom, but if it looks anything like the rest of the wood it needs to be replaced also. I think it has to be a 60's hull. The guy I got it from said 70's, but I was not so sure. And I cannot know for sure because he does not have the title for anything, and I don't know how to get it from him because he got the boat from another guy. But thank you for the reassurance. Also, no this boat will not be free, no where close, but still I am going to have a cheap boat 30 years ahead of time and I am happy with that. I just want to get the motor up and running too.

I would not spend a penny on it until it is registered in your name. Good luck!

I agree! Different states have different requirements, but I would check with your titling agency to see what needs to be done before investing much time or money in it.
