I'm looking at a 21ft sun tracker fishing barge, any comments on this pontoon, family likes to fish, it has a 50 hp mercury.

Re: Suntracker

The Suntracker line of pontoons are good middle-of-the-line boats.

Agree, they are a good entry level boat, it should do you well.

Entry level isn't a bad thing, it just means they aren't stacked with options and high line things, the deck and tubes are pretty much the same as any other boat.

Is this a new 2009 boat???
Suntracker startstheir ads with the smaller powered motors, but the 21ft suntracker fishing barge should be powered by AT LEAST a 60 HP BIG FOOT.
If this is a used boat be sure and take it out on the water and load it with as many persons that you plan on entertaining on the water. This will tell you if the boat is under powered and the proper motor installed on the boat.

Re: Suntracker

Find my recent blog on here titled "Cavitation - End of My (Bleeping) Rope". I bought a 2008 21' Party Barge with a 50 hp Mercury in May and have had HORRIBLE problems with prop cavitation/ventilation. Everything I've heard/read tells me that these boats should have either a 60 hp Bigfoot or bigger. I have been waiting for well over a week for the manager of the customer relations dept at Tracker Boats to review my boat specs and see what, if anything, I can do. It came set-up from Bass Pro Shops, and the guy there tells me that all of their 21'-ers go out with a Merc 50, but I can't believe it. I've talked to other Sun Tracker dealers that will not send them out without a Bigfoot motor (basically a 50 hp motor with a different lower unit, gears and larger prop).

We absolutely love the boat itself - couldn't be happier, but that motor and boat combination has been a nightmare for me.

Just my opinion. Do what you wish.

Best of luck!

Be sure the motor is a Bigfoot version. A regular Merc longshaft doesn't have enough prop. Go 60 Bigfoot if you can.

Re: Suntracker

We bought a 1987 Suntracker with the 50 classic (which is actually a 45 hp) merc. We had 7 adults and on child on it - it turns 5000 rpm - not sure about mph - forgot to get my Dad's GPS. We love it - it is great for fishing, trolling or just riding around - fuel consumption was great. I am looking to put a larger OB on it so I can try and pull my adult kids on tubes. Overall, we could have it longer than I normally keep a boat. :)
