Hi, I'm new to the forum and was looking at the list of Boat Brands shown on the forum. There must be several hundred listed. However, The one I own, of course, is not listed. Does anyone here have knowledge of or even heard of Sunbird Boats? I believe at one point they were owned by AMC then was bought out by OMC. In any case I just bought a 1989 Sunbird 208 Cuddy Cabin. It has a 4.3 V6 and OMC Cobra Stern Drive. So far, The bellows, all belts, outdrive water pump,
shift cable, steering u joints, gimble bearing and fuel filter have been replaced. I've installed a few electronics. My next issue is to replace cracked and broken bilge vent hose both from the pump and intake vent. Is anyone here familiar with Sunbird Boats?

Welcome to iBoats . . .

Yup, Sunbird. Not the best boat in the world, more of an economy boat. They did go out of business sometime in the early 1990's IIRC.

Post up some pics so we can see what you got. :thumb:

I've seen them around, not a bad looking boat. They appear to be in a class like Bayliner.

Decent lookin' boats. I see 'em often down here in TN. If it's been kept well - or you put it back together well - no reason it can't be a good boat.

Welcome aboard.

Friend of mine owns one in the 18 ft range. I'd agree with it being in the same class as a Bayliner in terms of the way they look and relative weight of the hull.

Seen several in my area as well. Condition and how it was stored and maintained are more important than brand names. A 20 year old well maintained boat can be a much better boat than a 3 year old poorly maintained, abused boat.

Thanks....a blower question: Should I be able to access the blower and tubes by pulling the vents from the outside?

No. You access them from inside the engine compartment.

Re: Sunbird Boat Knowledge?

Ok, I hope the blower is set up correctly now. On the air intake that has the blower in line I had to turn reverse the blower. It was blowing into the bilge. I reversed it to blow out of the engine bilge and reversed the cowling to blow astern.(it was blowing forward the same as the other side.) The other side had no hose attached. I inserted a hose that should now feed fresh air to the engine bilge. However, I am a bit confused. Both collector boxes had 2 holes in them. The hoses fill one on each but what are the other holes for? Actually, I just covered those holes. Do I need to uncover them and do something else?
