Hello guys.
Can you please help me with my Shakespeare question: To buy or not to buy? ))
My fellow owns Sun Runner 220SB 1986 Volvo-Penta V8 225hp, which he doesn?t need much and can sell it to me.

Can you please advise me: what should I check, any usual sickness of Sun runner hull and Volvo Engine, etc?
Now it is still on the shore and I am gathering all the information about that so I can check properly.

P.S. I liked it very much and dreaming about it everyday ))

Max

Check for rot everywhere you can see directly or with a mirror.
Look for a list to either side when in the water.
Condition of the bilge area
Condition of the gel coat
General condition
How does the motor sound
Compression test the motor
Look for signs of water intrusion anywhere there is a gap
Check the bellows
Condition of the prop, is there a huge chunk missing? If so that likely means he hit something

I think price is a huge factor here. For the age the boat looks to be in great shape but the outdrive looks a little rough. I think the boat might be underpowered but if you are looking to do a little day cruising it might be just the thing....

It is just me or is the boat tagged with a NY registration, and the photos from a Russian website? That's kinda' weird.

There's some really good stuff HERE Max. But you may want to hire someone to look it over with you - either a good marine tech, or pay for a full blown survey. Condition is key in used boats, and that one looks reasonable (depending on the price), but there's no real way to tell without lookin' it over.

Welcome aboard.

I liked my Sunrunner. It was a pretty solidly built boat. From your questions I am guessing you haven't owned a boat or only owned small ones. I would pay someone to check it out for you. Where are you located. From the wording it sounds like somewhere in Europe or was done with a web translator.

Guys,
thank a lot for advices.
It is true, the boat is in Russia and I live in Russia also. Here Sunnrunners are really rare thing.
In fact I saw the boat already, but I didn't have chance to check anything. Just came on a board for a couple of minutes.

Price is really cheap - that is why I worry about all that.
One thing I noticed - wet smell in a hull. As if smb left wet towel inside a year ago ))
Since it parked on black sea shore now, it is quite hot and windy, - smell must fly away, but it still exists...
Is it usual thing for old Sunrunner boat, or just needed proper ventilation?

If it is covered they can get a musty smell over winter. You just need to be sure it is not rotted wood.

We had an '88 Ultra-252 for 3 seasons. I was always impressed with how solid it was. Biggest 23-1/2' boat I've ever seen! ;)

What issues I did have with the boat had nothing to do with the boat itself or how it was built.

They were made here in Spokane. When I sold the old seats to put in captains the guy that bought them worked at the factory back in the day.

I worked at Sun Runner marine in Airway Hights from 85 to 89. If your boat has the original top I probably it on.:)
I can tell you the owners laminated up there first boat under a tree and they were amazed with the performance when they first installed a VP Duo Prop.
Other then that. can't help ya much
