Going to get the driveway resealed soon and wanted to deal with some existing oil spots prior to. Worst area is about the size of a salad plate. Other areas just a few drips here and there.

All suggestions welcome (including getting the dang steering rack seals fixed on the vehicle...)

Prior to seal coating i burn off oil stains with the propane torch i use for shrink wrap. This allows the sealer to adhere to the asphalt.

TSP workes good. If there are risidual stains phosphoric or muratic acid will devour them. I would scrub, and powerwash first - try to avoid using acid but it absolutely works if all else fails. Dishwashing liquid can also be used, and get the dang steering rack seals fixed!

^^^ Invite this guy over to powerwash. Then complain that he ruined your driveway.

Note: This is a joke based on the crazy lady thread :p

ROFL. Yeah Get R Socey's pressure washer...from what I've heard his setup is quite powerful and you have more potential of getting a full replacement driveway after routine maintenance fails!

On concrete driveways, I make a watery paste of OxyClean and let it sit on the spot. Not sure how effective that is on asphalt.

Petroleum based seal over petroleum based spills over petroleum based surface. I suggest a pressurewash and let dry.

On concrete I use cat litter and scrub it with a brick...I don't know if this will work on asphalt.

^^^^^Kmarine sounds like the way to go. Depending on how soaked in it is? Just spots or soft areas? Might need new stringers???
