I see "general maintenance" mentioned frequently as the main necessity for outboard longevity and reliablilty.

How about adding a FAQ that has a short list of basic maintenance procedures needed to keep outboards reliable?

There is tons of info on these boards, but a short list in one place would be a good place for an inexperienced boater to start. :)

Re: Suggestion for FAQ

Good idea, lakelover. No debating on that one. Just plain and simple facts...

Compression check
Battery and voltage check (Charging check)
Lower unit change and check
VRO maintenence
Shift and throttle check
Prop check
Bendix lube
Wiring check (Loose or corroded connections)

I'm sure there are others, but a good idea..

Re: Suggestion for FAQ

Hey, Rick!

You would be a good one to write that article for us!

An article listing your routine/preventive maintenance items and a short paragraph about how to do each should fit the bill. It should address differences for carbed and injected 2 strokes and for 4 strokes.

Write a first draft and post it here under the title, First draft: FAQ Routine Outboard Maintenence , and ask for suggestions and comments.

Edit the article to include helpful suggestions.

When you think she is ready, let us know and one of the Mods will transfer it to the FAQ section for you.

Thanks for your continuing contributions. :)
