I was about 45 minutes into a cruise - boat seemed to be running great. All of a sudden I heard a grinding noise then the engine stalled out. It makes the same grinding noise when I try to start it (see video) The day before I had plugs & wires replaced. distributor cap was taken off and cleaned and re-assembled.

I can turn the engine by hand but and it seems to turn freely, however i can see that the flywheel is not turning when I turn the engine. I believe it should be. Also I can only turn the engine counter clock wise (if looking at it from the bow of the boat)

any info/help will be appreciated.

Ayuh,.... Sounds like catastrophic failure,....
The motor turns clockwise viewed from the bow, 'n yes, the flywheel should turn with the crankshaft,....
Is there any oil in the motor,..??

Oil was changed after last season and i didn't bother checking, just assumed the mechanic did it properly. When we changed the plugs & wires we checked the oil and it was a bit high, but we have been on 4-5 hour rides this season and oil pressure was always in range so didn't think it was too big an issue. maybe we were wrong??? This could have cased the issue?

At the very least, it sounds like the flywheel bolts have backed out or sheared. But it could be a broken crankshaft. Motor has to come out and likely is toast.

Your really supposd to check the fluids EVERYTIME you start the motor the first time.
