sudden gas usage

I run a 2001 225/hp merc opti. All of a sudden I am using three times as much gas. Smart craft guage usually reads about 8 gal per hr, now its 28 gal per hr. You can almost see the gas guage move.There is no leak in tank or gas slick behind boat. Any ideas????

Compressor maybe. Stuck injector. Is it running poorly? Have you correlated your meters indication with actual fuel use?
