Re: stupid trim question

Sounds like we're dealing with a small boat/motor combination. I've always laid a straight edge along the bottom of the boat and then picked the trim position that gets the engine closest to being parallel with the straight edge.

One down from that position will get you up on plane faster but may also drive the bow down and make it hard to steer. One up from that will hold the bow up better but it may never come up on plane unless you move some weight up forward. If you have to compromise with parallel, do it on the trim up side vs. trim down. That should give you the best overall performance.

Trim engine into hole that will give a perpendicular engine to water level, move your weight forward and full throttle to plane, once achieved this could throttle down to maintain plane. Check if having water spalashes at back transom as this issue will slow you down.

On the power TT motors, we typically set the thrust rod (that adjustable "stop bar") to a spot that allows the motor to trim way down, relatively low... so that you can hold the bow down during the hole shot; then use the TT buttons to trim up for best performance at speed. Really, since the rod is a "limiter", unless it's set up too high, the actual position is not critical... you will use the TT system to get what you want.

I put all mine in the lowest hole and use the PTT for all adjustments. Thats what power trim is for after all.
