89 5.7 Mercruiser. Well, I went to pull out the boat from winter storage and did a dumb thing. I had bought a new coil because the old one looked cracked. I cranked it with the new coil, no start. Then without checking I put coil leads on in reverse because the new coil was in the other way which made me think I had reversed my connections but hadn't. Then I cranked the engine, no start. I swapped them back on the new coil, and then tried the old coil too. It turned out to have dirt on it but no crack. It wouldn't run the engine either. Maybe the damage is done. No start now.
Should I start checking for spark and doing the whole ignition diagnostic tree in the manual, or does anyone here know a more direct answer.
BTW you all can rip me all you want, I deserve it.
Signed,
Mr Idiot
