OK here it is. I have one of those stupid electric transformer boxes on my front lawn that happens to be right in my way when I back my boat into my side yard. I talked to the electric company and they want $8,000.00 to move it three feet. Currently I’m able to work with it because I have an 18’ boat. Well, I just purchased a 22’ boat with a longer trailer and it’s going to be tight. I’m thinking if I move to a smaller vehicle this might help. I currently have an Isuzu Trooper.

My question: Can anyone recommend a small vehicle that can tow 6,000 pounds?

Thanks
Stoked not

Re: Stupid Question

Stoked not....ever think about a front mount hitch? I got one on my truck. I can put a boat anywhere with it. Best of all, hitch companies like Ridgid make the darn things. Give it some thougt. May be the answer to your problem.

Re: Stupid Question

A good size lawn tractor might do it as long as the areas flat(braking/stopping issue).. I used to move some mighty big stuff around with a 20hp craftsman tractor...

stoked not

Haha on a good reason to get a new lawn mower! A man after me own heart! In the boat yards we used fork lifts to move boats around. Same system IE: ball on the front. Don't let your wife see this post! Go for the new lawn mower :) But with a front mounted ball you can thread that boat with just 1/4 inch on both sides .. works great.. go to your local marine dealer and watch how they do it. Works great!

Link

Hmm mabe its time for me to get a new mower too :)

Re: Stupid Question

any pictures or instructions on creating this type hitch for a lawn mower? I think this might be the best thing for me as well and I bet I could get my buddy to help fabricate something if we have someplace to start...

Thanks

Re: Stupid Question

Most lawn mowers have a hole in the back so just add one of those wall-mart 6 dollar balls to it

Re: Stupid Question

What about tong weight? Could this be an issue with a Lawn mower. My neighbor would probably kill me when I start up the mower when I come home around 2 Am from night fishing.

Stoked Not

Re: Stupid Question

Hi stoked not, I used a powercaster to move a 25 foot travel trailer for years, worked great unless it had rained, then the tire sank in the grass. I added a connector and switch to activate the trailer brakes, that saved my bacon the second time it went downhill, seems the electric motor can't reverse until it stops, meanwhile it free wheels, I had to turn the unit 90 degrees and jam it to stop, pretty exciting, also proved now strong it was, the newer units have this brake either stock or available, good luck.
