Here I North Alabama we are in a severe drought, I fish Guntersville Lake and the bass has my number the last couple of weeks. They have the water backed up and none of my honey holes have produced like the last couple of years. I mainly fish grass ledges and top water over the submerged grass in the evenings and early mornings. (around 3 to 5 foot of water and 6 to 15 ft in the ledges.)With the drought and higher water lake levels the bass is seems to be more scattered.

Any suggestions?

Re: Stumped!

You have a drought and the lake level is high? don't you mean lower then normal? Normally, if the water rises you should try the area that used to be dry. If it's lowered then I really can't help because I'm still having a hell of a time figuring it out.

When we are in a drought the dams backs the lakes up to hold more water,

Really? We're in a moderate drought too and they are dropping the lakes big time for irrigation. I guess because we don't have big river running into our reservoir like Guntersville. The ones with small river going into it are dropping too because the creeks that feed those rivers are all dried up.

I thought what you are thinking too. I fish a lot at the dam for strippers and cat's and I talked to a guy that works at the dam. Since this is a hydro dam they back the lakes up (on the Tennessee River) to preserve water and hold it for generation purposes.

Anyway,My usual spots are deeper than normal.Maybe the fish are in transition to summer patterns, I have never been a good deep bass fisherman,, might have to start fishing for catfish a little early LOL.

Not that this will help, but I fish a couple of reservoir's that the water level fluctuates quite a bit. They seem to be the hardest lakes to find fish consistently. I have found that the bass will hold to deep cover when the levels change, weather it be up or down. They seem to move up when the level stays the same for a period of time. Try some off shore humps. Or some secondary deep ledges with a drop shot or a jig.
