I own a 1989 Rinker 206 Captiva with a 350 mag Yamaha I/O. I went to take off pulling a knewborder and after about a second it acted as if it got shifted into neutral but still at full throttle. The shaft coming out of the motor and into the lower unit doesn not turn when in gear/motor running. Turn motor off and put it in gear and and turn prop by hand and the shaft turns. Could this be a shift cable problem or something more serious.

wow I hate to say it but it sounds as if you have spun the shaft coupler. remove the drive and look for metal shavings on it. when was the last time the drive was removed for maintenance? it should be done yearly to check shaft alighnment and grease the splines.

I agree with the shaft cup on this one. Very expensive. If it is, used is the way to go. Should pay $375.00 - $450.00 for a good used one, with no prop, exchange.

If you did not learn anything today, you should have stayed in bed.
