Something happened to my OD this weekend..........it's stuck in fwd.
I verified the shift shaft moving while someone was moving the shift lever at the helm, I was in the water.
The drive remained in FWD (prop locked going CCW) no matter what the position of the shaft.
I know I need to pull the boat and remove the OD to confirm.

Just thinking ahead.......if it is the lower shift shaft (not the foot) in the lower unit, can that be replaced w/o disassembling the lower? Can it be removed by simply removing the bushing?

Hoping for a simple fix........

The shift shaft throw is picky to say the least. Disconnect the shifting cable and see if you can shift it by hand.

Could be a bent shaft (unlikely), a broken shift crank (box strip), damaged shift spool (box strip) or a broken cross-pin (unlikely, box strip)...

Remove the drive and split it, see what's what...
