Have a 2001 5.7 MPI. Spun a rod bearing after what i presume was oil pump failure.Damage is done so its rebuild time.Thought about stroking it to a 383.But what i dont know for sure is the Computer? Will it have to be replaced or can it be reprogramed or will it need nothing? Throw your thoughts at me. Thanks

Thou I've never done it to That motor,........

The computer should adapt quite nicely to the added stroke.....

You may not get All of the Potential HP from it,......
But,.... You Will see a Major Improvement in Torque........

You had best check with a performance shop as I believe that engine will go to the lean side with the increased stroke and no change in fuel delivery profile. More air, same fuel, = lean. Without a change you risk having to work on the engine again.

Does it have an obd2 port.Like the automotive 5.7s do?If so there are.programmers out there:Superchips,Diablosport predator. There are also full blown software programs:LSedit,HPtuners,EFIlive.

You are not going to be able to flash that using an automotive programmer unless the fuel injection routine is exactly the same as the automotive equivalent...

...and it won't be.

You have a few sensors absent in the marine version of the engine namely 02 sensors and the temps are all different. Marine engines are more of an open loop system than a car which is closed loop.

No, I have just been rather vocal about the lack of importance of increasing low end torque on a marine application. If you have missed my arrogant, opinionated posts in this regard, then the above wouldn't make sense.

Anyway, I wil state as I always do, unless a boat is having trouble planing, then increased Low RPM, peak torque will not get you much of anything. High end horsepower makes boats go faster, not increased low-end torque. Your point was valid, yes, torque will inrease with the stroked engine, the response sounded like what I usually respond to, the "all you need is torque" mantra . . .
