stripped spark plug

I bought a boat with a 1977 Chrysler 75 hp motor this summer. This weekend I pulled the spark plugs out to change them when I noticed one of the plugs came out with some type of insert stuck on it that had unscrewed from the head. Is there anything that I could apply to the threads of the insert and screw it back in that would permanently bond the insert back together and allow me to unscrew the plug from the insert. Hope this makes sense, thanks, dc

Re: stripped spark plug

On lawn mower engines (allumim head) you use locktight and do not run a washer (on the plug) with the insert (if the insert is the "full" type....One with a "lip" on the top)...if it is just a coil (like a spring) with no lip then run a washer on the plug.

ps the locktight will not keep the insert in (I've never had it to work) so use anti-seize on the plug threads so you can get the insert back off of it.

dc,

been there, done that. Install a helicoil.
Search "stripped spark plug" and find my post of about 3 months ago. I tried JB Weld, which worked for about 20 running hours.
