have a nissan 40.. the 5mm drain plug slot head screw is fixed with a fibre washer.. <br /><br />the washer got beat an got a nylon washer 5mm for honda.. <br /><br />since it nylon had to crank tite alittle more opposed to the fiber washer.. an you guessed it .. STRIPPED..<br /><br />i'm good at drill & tap.. but shavins' would get in case.. don't want to remove case cause it's over my head an ob shop it book hilt.. an rock fish are on the flats an gotta get out..<br /><br />my question is,, thre's gotta bet something out there like a small expandable plug,, heli-coil,, 'fix-thread-for -idiots'

There are heli-coils made for that application. It's unlikely that drilling would be required for the thread insert. The tap that you would use to prepare the hole for the insert can be loaded with grease to catch the shavings. The repair will actually be stronger than the original threads.

Good luck with this. I had the same problem with my Honda. I ended up having to use a heli-coil and going to an imperial thread and a Merc drain bolt. I've had it pressure tested several times and we still cannot get a tight fit. Now use a fibre gasket and o-ring but I still have to change the oil several times a year due to water getting in.
