I'm somewhat new to striper fishing. Most of my fishing is freshwater for bass and trout.

I'm fishing in the Thames River in CT (brackish), near piers and pilings. I caught one last week on a plastic 10" eel (fish was 16"). Don't quite remember what I did.

Should I fish the eels towards the bottom? Fast or slow retrieve?

I had a few good hits tonight, and had one hook up but he jumped and spit the hook. Again, I really don't know what I may be doing right (or wrong here), perhaps I got a little lucky. I've had the most hits with the plastic eel, but I want to learn the best way to fish them. :)

Re: Stripers and plastic eels

Throwing 10? eels to a 16? fish is crazy. Especially for the schollies your are targeting.

Suggest you try throwing a 6" Bass Assassin on a ? - 1oz. jig head to them. They eat them like candy

Cast out and allow the bait to hit bottom, if not hit on the way down, and try several different methods of retrieval. As the water gets cooler your retrieve should get slower.
