Well, I troll 14- 20 lines with 2 parachutes with 9" sassy shads or an umbrella rig on each line. Baits range in size from 2 oz to 32 oz. This method is not for everyone but we land a lot of Stripers :D

Stripers love live Shad, if you can find some....If the stripers are schooling, they'll hit about anything you throw out there, like a jig head with a green rubber worm on it. Ask around your local lake or river for some good "local" advice on baits, locations/depths of fish! Get your line, reels and tackle in shape because a 15 lb. stripper hits hard, similar to a Red Fish!...lots of fun and darn good eatin':)

Since you posted this in the freshwater section I assume you are going for landlock ones. Stripers in lakes, especially clear ones prefer low light conditions - many are caught at night. Alot are caught on chicken livers in the MD reservoirs. They push bait to the surface when they are active, and you can catch them on about anything. When they are not active they tend to hang in deeper water where you can entice them with live bait. When the water temp is too hot, they wont feed. Where are you going to be fishing?

An easy way for a newb to locate and catch stripers on inland lakes is to troll Rattle Trap type lures at idle speed (2-3 mph) in deep water.

MK4713-
You are only 40 minutes south of the best striper fishing Texas has to offer at Lake Texoma. I have been going out Friday evenings and Sunday mornings for the last month, and we have caught large #'s each trip. They had been schooling in the morning and evenings out by North Island, however on Sunday we found them at the mouth of Big Mineral and followed them clear accross to the Oklahoma side. Watch the Birds and you will find the fish.

Mill Creek is where I have kept my boat for the past 5 years, and we love it! The people are great and the gas prices are fairly reasonable considering its on the water. They added a restaurant at the gas dock last year, and it is supposed to be open in the next couple of weeks. 2 years ago they got TABC licensed so they now sell beer and wine at the gas dock as well. Mill Creek and Grandpappys are my favorite marinas on Lake Texoma by far.
