Strip Threads

This past Saturday went to change gear oil in lower unit and found that vent screw threads are stripped on unit. Is this a big problem? How do I go about fixing it? I have been told not to tap new threads but don't understand why. Need help. Thanks!

Howdy bigben,<br />How goes it, besides the stripped vent threads.<br />What you're gonna have ta do is drill out the old threads and install a helicoil. If you're not familiar with helicoils and how they work, you might take it to a machine shop and let them do it. Shouldn't cost much.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
