Im going to be replacing the stringers in my 84 Ski Supreme. Wondering about what materials to use. I know what lumber to use but more wondering about what fiberglass to use. I was thinking about 3M 8sq ft cloth. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt use 2Xs nor any type of pressure treated.

Study the info at the link I posted, typical stringers are plywood stood on edge.

Not familiar w Ski Supreme construction, but I'd be surprised they used 2X nominal lumber instead of ply.

Perhaps its a straight inboard, in which case 2X srringers wouldnt be too surprising after all....

do not use dimensional lumber

use plywood and laminate as needed.

go to the DIY stickies at teh top of the restoration forum and read thru links 14, 15, 18, 2, 3, 4a, and 4b. everything you would ever want to know about fiberglass boat restoration is in those links.

This is what I'm working with. To me looks like 2x4 or 2x6. Thanks for that info scott, I'll take a look at those for sure.

That does not look to be a proper boat building material.-----Hard to think to would call their boats ---" Ski Supreme " I think.--------I guess there are no standards for consumer boat construction.

You'll get much better strength from laminated wood (e.g., plywood) than dimensional lumber. I would not use pressure treated anything in my boat, due to concerns about fiberglass adhering correctly and the reactivity of certain varieties of PT wood with other materials (like metal fasteners).
