Ive been replacing Stringers and transoms, on outboard on sterndrive boats for the last 10yrs. This year in stepping up my game. Im getting ready to start a new project. Its a 31ft Tiara, The stringers are 2 inchs wide solid wood. they tap out ok with the hammer, but the moisture reading are off the meter. My question is will new coosa stingers support her twin Chrysler motors?

You've been doing this for the last decade and have not pulled any bolts or screws that are in the stringers or drilled any holes in the wet areas to see if you have dry shavings ? Moisture meters are not always accurate, depending on when the hull was pulled , even bottom paint will affect the readings . From what I've read about surveyors they rely more on the hammer test than the meter . I would replace with wood if my googling search didn't come up with a positive Coosa report, lateral strength, would be one concern .

it lasted nearly 50+ years with wood

think about that statement.

If you have to replace it, just put wood in it, it will last another 50+ years

alittle condesending ? No, Sir, I have never had to remove screws from stringers floors or bulkheads.

Could be . If it was my hull and someone inspected it while second guessing his equipment , I would want a 100% , the stringers are shot from him . Me , I would then look for any clamps ,brackets etc . screwed into the stringers in the bad reading section . If nothing was in the " questionable " area , I would drill a few small holes and check the shavings , then work a right angle pick into those holes . Comes out dry or wet and no one is second guessing. If I was a customer and watched dry stringers being pulled ,things would go south ,real quick .
