Hi, i have an 85 Thundercraft magnum 190 with a 3.8l and a stringer 800 outdrive. It had water in the lower. I removed the sterndrive and removed the lower.
Now my question is. With the lower removed i push down on or pull up on the shift rod to put in forward or reverse and when i try to spin the prop shaft it turns about a quarter turn and then feels like it binds up and wont spin anymore. I take it this is not normal and probably have some sort of issue inside? when its in neutral the shaft spins either way no problem. Could it be that this is just because the lower is seperated from the upper? because the drive shaft (i dont know what its called but the shaft that connects the lower to the upper) seem to move up a bit when i spin the prop shaft.
I am new to boating and new to boat mechanics, i am however used to be an auto mechanic so i have knowledge of how stuff works, just new to boats.
ANY help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bryan
