Stray voltage

I just finished an overhaul on a 1979, 235 Evinrude. Now I have an energized engine. I'm getting readings of about 2.5volts through the block and the kill switch (key) doesn't kill the engine completely. The engine will keep sputtering along for several seconds. I've pretty much eliminated all the control side of the wiring and all the visible engine wiring looks good. Anybody got any suggestions before I start cutting open all the wiring loom wrapping.

Re: Stray voltage

Sounds like the engine is not grounded right.<br />Give the ground side a good check.

Re: Stray voltage

You were right steelespike. One side powerpack 4 pin plug had the kill circuit pin bent and when I plugged it back together the pin didn't go where it was supposed to. Thanks
